What Is Counselling?
Counselling is a type of talking therapy that provides a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space for you to talk about whatever is on your mind. It’s an opportunity to speak with a trained professional who is there to listen, understand, and help you explore your thoughts and feelings without fear of criticism.

In our sessions, you are the expert on your own life. My role is to walk alongside you, helping you gain a deeper understanding of yourself and the challenges you face. It’s a collaborative journey where we work together to explore your unique experiences and find a path forward.
What Counselling is NOT
It's just as important to understand what counselling is not. It is not:

-
A quick fix: While you may feel relief after a single session, counselling is a process that takes time and commitment to achieve lasting change.

-
Giving advice: I will not tell you what to do. Instead, I will help you find your own answers and solutions that are right for you.

-
Judgment: This is a space free of judgment, where you can be open and honest about your feelings, thoughts, and experiences.

-
A casual chat: While our sessions will be based on a warm and trusting relationship, they have a clear purpose: to help you work through your concerns and achieve your goals.

Why Come To Counselling?
People come to counselling for many different reasons. You might be struggling with a specific event, like a bereavement, a relationship breakdown, or work-related stress. Or you might be dealing with more general feelings of sadness, anxiety, low self-esteem, or a sense of being stuck.

Counselling is for anyone who wants to:

-
Talk to someone neutral: It can be hard to open up to family and friends. A counsellor offers an impartial, confidential ear.

-
Gain clarity: When you feel confused or overwhelmed, talking things through can help you make sense of your thoughts and feelings.

-
Find new ways of coping: We all develop habits and thought patterns. Counselling can help you identify unhelpful ones and develop healthier ways to manage life’s difficulties.

-
Explore your past: Sometimes, past experiences can affect how you feel today. Counselling provides a safe space to explore these connections and work towards healing.
The Benefits of Counselling
Engaging in counselling can lead to a number of powerful benefits, including:

-
Increased Self-Awareness: You will gain a better understanding of yourself, your emotions, and your behaviours.

-
Improved Coping Skills: You will learn practical strategies to manage stress, anxiety, and other difficult emotions.

-
Clarity and Insight: You may gain a new perspective on old problems, helping you to see a way forward.

-
Greater Confidence: As you work through your challenges, you can build a stronger sense of self-worth and resilience.

-
Emotional Relief: Simply having a space to talk and be truly heard can bring a great sense of relief and release.

If you feel that counselling might help you, please don't hesitate to get in touch. We can arrange a confidential chat to discuss your needs and answer any questions you may have. Taking this first step is a brave and important move, and I am here to support you.
